Option1:
Mortuary – Strengthening Security through Integration and Analytics
Client: NHS Rotherham Hospital
Supplier: AEL Systems Ltd
Contract Overview:
AEL Systems has been responsible for NHS Rotherham Hospital’s fire and security systems under a comprehensive maintenance contract since 2017. This partnership includes services such as CCTV upgrades, access control, alarm systems, traffic barriers, and panic alarms.
Project Overview:
Location: Mortuary, NHS Rotherham Hospital
Objective: To enhance security and control access to the mortuary by integrating advanced technology and strengthening access management.
Scope:
- Upgrade of the existing standalone CCTV and access control systems.
- Installation of an analytical CCTV system for 24/7 live monitoring.
- Integration of upgraded access control and CCTV into the hospital’s centralised systems.
- Installation of automated sliding gates to restrict unauthorised access.
Challenges:
- Rapid Deployment: A short timeframe required efficient project management to meet urgent security needs.
- Blind Spots: Existing systems had insufficient coverage, leaving areas vulnerable.
- Legacy Systems: Outdated standalone systems needed integration with centralised monitoring.
Solution:
AEL Systems replaced the standalone CCTV system with advanced analytics-based cameras that provided live monitoring and motion detection. These cameras tracked movement and sent alerts to the hospital’s main security control room. Access control systems were upgraded and connected to the centralised Trust’s platform, allowing for detailed monitoring of entry and exit activities. Automated gates were installed to further secure the area.
Benefits:
- Improved Access Management: Centralised monitoring enabled real-time control and traceability of personnel movements.
- Enhanced Security: The analytical system reduced blind spots and provided demand-led monitoring.
- Cost Efficiency: Technology reduced the reliance on static guards while improving response times.
Outcome:
The project was completed efficiently under tight deadlines, bolstering the mortuary’s security and reducing reliance on guard services.
Option 2:
Delivering Smarter, Safer Mortuary Security for NHS Rotherham Hospital
AEL Systems Ltd supported NHS Rotherham Hospital in transforming security at its mortuary with a modern, intelligent, and fully integrated solution that delivers measurable operational and safety benefits. The project demonstrates AEL’s ability to design, deliver, and integrate advanced security technologies in complex healthcare environments where reliability, compliance, and rapid deployment are critical.
Replacing outdated standalone systems, AEL implemented a state-of-the-art analytical CCTV platform combined with upgraded access control and automated perimeter protection. High-performance analytics cameras now provide continuous 24/7 monitoring, automatically detecting movement and escalating real-time alerts to the hospital’s central security control room. This proactive approach enables faster response times, improved situational awareness, and significantly reduced security risk.
By integrating access control into the Trust’s centralised system, AEL delivered greater transparency, auditability, and control over staff movement across the site. The addition of automated sliding gates further strengthens physical security, preventing unauthorised access while maintaining operational efficiency for authorised personnel.
Delivered within a challenging timeframe, this solution showcases AEL’s expertise in project management, system integration, and technical delivery. The upgraded system has eliminated security blind spots, reduced reliance on static guarding, and created a scalable, future-ready security infrastructure that protects both people and assets.
This project highlights how AEL Systems can combine cutting-edge technology with practical operational design to deliver smarter, safer, and more cost-effective security solutions for NHS trusts and critical infrastructure environments.
