Businesses that are proactive in the following areas are much less likely to suffer loss or damage due to fires. ## Good housekeeping It’s vital to reduce clutter around the workplace to remove the sort of fuel that enables fires to spread quickly and easily. Stacked boxes and waste ought to be managed immediately in the proper manner. ## Address electrical hazards Make sure staff are well-drilled when it comes to reporting electrical hazards. Addressing them quickly prevents them being the source of a fire. ## Good technical maintenance All electrical equipment ought to be maintained properly to make sure it is safe. Fire safety systems also need regular maintenance. ## Security against arson Some fires on commercial settings can be put down to arson. Good commercial security systems prevent this. ## Manage smoking areas Smoking areas should be well clear of fire hazards. This has been made easier by the smoking ban, but businesses still need to be vigilant about cigarette disposal. ## Train staff in fire extinguisher use In the case of small fires, staff with proper training may be able to control them and stop them at source but only if they have had the right instruction. -
